DRF Luftrettung responds to sawmill fire
At around 12:30 hrs on 24 June, a fire broke out in a sawmill in Titisee-Neustadt in the Black Forest, Germany.
At around 12:30 hrs on 24 June, a fire broke out in a sawmill in Titisee-Neustadt in the Black Forest, Germany. Around 350 emergency personnel fought were involved in the firefighting effort, including 200 firefighters from four districts. DRF Luftrettung helicopters from Freiburg and Villingen-Schwenningen were dispatched to the site of the blaze.
Frank Jaenke, pilot of the helicopter from Villingen-Schwenningen, explained that the DRF Luftrettung crew worked with other responders to perform triage. An employee of the sawmill had suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation; he was treated by the medical crew of Christopher 11 and taken to a nearby hospital onboard a ground ambulance. Jaenke added that firefighters had to work in extreme temperatures as they battled the flames, resulting in some experiencing circulatory problems and coming close to exhaustion. They were assisted by the helicopter crew, as well as other emergency services personnel, and later taken to hospital.
By 15:30 hrs the fire was under control.
