MedEvac Foundation International has announced the 2015 recipient of the Medical Transport Leadership Institute (MTLI) Scholarship to be Dr Andrew Latimer, a University of Cincinnati Air Care and Mobile Care flight physician.
Dr Latimer receives the scholarship based on his proven track record of ‘dedication to critical care transport, an unparalleled passion for HEMS, and his commitment to maximising patient outcomes beginning in the pre-hospital treatment environment’, said the organisation. He has 10 years of experience in the emergency medical industry, including positions in fire service and EMS in Washington State and as a ground critical care transport EMT. He is currently an active flight physician and a senior resident at the University of Cincinnati, Department of Emergency Medicine. He is active in many of the industry’s professional associations, such as the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP), American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and the Air Medical Physician Association (AMPA).
“My motivations to attend MTLI are twofold. I hope to gain leadership and management skills related to critical care transport medicine that are largely ignored in the standard emergency medicine curriculum, as well as foster a larger professional network to bring back to Air Care and Mobile Care as I take a larger leadership role within the programme as a senior resident and mentor,” said Dr Latimer. The MTLI enhances leadership and management of medical transportation through formal education programmes emphasising management theory and its direct practical application. The scholarship is awarded to individuals who excel in the critical care transport community based on active involvement, industry achievement, and commitment to critical care transport services. This award recognises individuals who strive to achieve the highest levels of professionalism and compassionate patient care toward the betterment of the air medical and critical care transport industry.
