Air Ambulance Specialists Inc. (AASI), an American Medical Response (AMR) company, and Kalitta Charters, LLC announced a new collaboration on 14 August. AASI now has responsibility for co-ordinating all Kalitta MedFlight air medical transportation services. AASI said the move will facilitate the expansion of its air ambulance services for neonatal and paediatric intensive care transports as well as to add additional international flights. As part of the collaboration, AASI will expand its operations to Ypsilanti, Michigan, and assume responsibility for Kalitta’s medical leadership and patient care staff.
“We are excited about the opportunity to care for more patients and look forward to providing additional air medical services to all of our valued customers,” stated Tom Cox, AASI General Manager. “With more than 20 years in the business, AASI is pleased to add a full range of paediatric and adult critical care to our suite of services.”
All requests for domestic and international air medical transportation are handled by the AMR/AASI communications centre based at Centennial Airport in Englewood, Colorado. The medical aspects of the flight will be coordinated by AMR/AASI medical staff, while operational control, including logistics of the mission, will be co-ordinated by Kalitta Charters.
In a statement, Kalitta Charters said: “This collaboration allows each of us to continue what we are known for and what we do best. Each company offers years of expertise, with the Kalitta name known in the aviation industry for more than 35 years, and AMR being in the medicine industry for over 20 years. Together, we now offer our customers the best of both crucial aspects of air medical transport with one simple phone call.”
