DJI M600 parachute system developed

Drone Rescue Systems GmbH has announced the development of an intelligent parachute rescue system for the DJI M600.
The Austria-based company says that the parachute opens the door for potential Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) flights. The system is equipped with electronics so that it is able to detect a potential crash and deploy the parachute faster than a human pilot could, therefore saving the often-expensive payloads that commercial drone users add to their devices.
The device weighs only 420g thanks to its carbon cage and the dispensing of pyrotechnics as a trigger mechanism; the parachute is propelled out of the device by an elastic cord system. The parachute design is also rectangular, a decision that Andreas Ploier, CEO and Co-Founder, explained: “This is particularly important because the parachute should be unfurled very quickly. Our goal was to develop a parachute system that can be deployed from an altitude of 10m. With the design of the parachute and the fast trigger mechanism, we have achieved this goal.”
Ploier also explained how the system may mean cheaper insurance premiums for drones: “We have already spoken with international insurance companies about this and they showed great interest. But a reduced premium is also interesting for the insured party, since this way he can refinance the acquisition cost of the DRS-M600.”
