Austrian UAV parachute rescue systems developer Drone Rescue Systems GmbH has announced that it will be premiering its new DRS-5 and DRS-10 parachute systems for the first time at Intergeo 2018, which takes place in Frankfurt, Germany, 16-18 October.
The company carried out final tests on the systems during Summer 2018 and has said that it believes that the first systems will be delivered by Winter 2018.
The DRS-5 parachute system consists of a carbon cage into which the parachute is stored and the associated electronics. Designed for UAVs of up to 8kg, the system uses sensor data to automatically detect when a crash is occurring. Drone Rescue Systems says that its system reacts faster than a pilot and will work even if communication between the pilot and drone has been lost. The DRS-10 system offers the same benefits as the DRS-5 but is able to take a total weight of 20kg.
“Our goal is to ensure, that even in an emergency Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) the drone can be safely intercepted. With our parachute system that is always possible, due to the electronics that are completely separate and independent of the flight controller. In addition, our system has the advantage, that it manages completely without explosive, pyrotechnical solutions. Consequently, we have a system that is considerably lighter, and functions even in a worst-case scenario”, elaborated Andreas Ploier, CEO and Co-Founder of Drone Rescue Systems.
