EMERCOM aircraft stabilise Siberian wildfires
EMERCOM has deployed 10 of planes and helicopters from its Siberia Regional Centre.
The Russian Emergency Control Ministry (EMERCOM) has deployed aircraft to stabilise wildfires in Siberia. On 29 June, EMERCOM said 10 of planes and helicopters from its Siberia Regional Centre were helping Transbaikalian, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Irkutsk Region, Buryatia and Tuva.
The crews’ main task is protecting settlements from the fires. An EMERCOM Mil Mi-8 helicopter prevented the fire from reaching the settlement of Beret in Krasnoyarsk Territory, said the service, while a Beriyev Be-200ChS amphibious jet put out a fire near the settlement of Rudnik Zhetkovo in Transbaikalian Territory.
An EMERCOM Ilyushin Il-76 plane transported 200 people from the federal reserve parachute service from Khanty-Masiysk and Kazan to reinforce the ground team. In addition, the service has completed daily airlifts of smoke-jumpers and equipment each day to reach fires burning in hard-to-reach locations, with satellite monitoring being used to detect wildfires early. In all, said EMERCOM, Mil Mi-8 helicopters have transported more than 2,300 air fire service workers and delivered more than 800 tons of cargo to remote areas.
