At the International Travel Insurance Conference (ITIC) held in Brighton on 16 May, UK-based fixed-wing air ambulance provider Capital Air Ambulance revealed that it has been awarded accreditation by the European Aeromedical Institute (EURAMI). The award was made on 8 May, said Capital Air Ambulance, less than a year after it was created as a division of Capital Air Charter.
With a base at Exeter International Airport, Capital Air Ambulance flies patients onboard its own fleet of planes and also provides medical escorts to accompany patients on commercial aircraft. Serving as medical director for the division since May 2012 is Dr Terry Martin, director of the CCAT aeromedical training courses and also a member of the EURAMI board.
The division’s parent company, Capital Air Charter, was founded in 1991 by managing director and chief pilot Malcolm Humphries. It provides a range of aviation services, including executive flights, aircraft charter for medical transfers between the Isle of Man and the UK mainland, and urgent light freight, utilising a fleet of Piper Chieftains and Blackhawk-upgraded Beechcraft King Air 200s.
Capital’s announcement, printed in the ITIC event brochure, also revealed EURAMI’s striking new logo for the first time. In a separate announcement, the EURAMI explained that there will in fact be two versions of the logo – one for general use and one for restricted, official use: "To avoid counterfeiting, we have edited two separate logos. One will be provided to all accredited members to be used on their electronic and marketing materials. Another logo has been created to be used exclusively for official accreditation certificates and EURAMI stationery."
