Flight deck upgrade for S-76B VVIP

Heli-One, a Universal Avionics (UA) authorised dealer, has been awarded Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval from both Transport Canada and the Malaysia Department of Civil Aviation for its Sikorsky S-76 VVIP helicopter flight deck upgrade. This covers three UA EFI-890H Advanced Flight Displays and a UA UNS-1Lw Flight Management System (FMS) with Vision-1 Synthetic Vision System (SVS).
Eddie Lane, Heli-One President, said: “This STC is an acknowledgement of the great work done by our team in bringing this project to a successful conclusion.”
Replacing legacy analogue Electronic Flight Instrument Systems (EFIS), the new Advanced Flight Delays will reduce issues with aging instruments and reliability, thus increasing operational capability while eradicating the costs of replacing and maintaining old displays – all desirable qualities for operators that prefer the modern look and feel of the S-76D avionics, but have other variants such as the S-76A, C, C+ and or C+ models.
UA Director of Technical Sales Grady Dess noted that, until now, options for upgrading the aircraft have been limited: “With our products and Heli-One’s experienced and capable team, we now have a cost-effective, reliable upgrade for these operators.”
UA’s Advanced Flight Displays are capable of customisation to show all primary flight information in a pilot-friendly, intuitive interface – enhancing safety, improving situational awareness, and reducing pilot workload. The multiple screen installation allows Vision-1 SVS to integrate 3D terrain awareness and external camera inputs, as well as alternative special mission equipment integration. The control panel also allows for new, innovative navigation, when combined with the upgraded FMS and offers the customer increased long-term value for their S-76B aircraft.
