German organisations co-operate for the future of air rescue
The ADAC Foundation, ADAC Luftrettung and the German Aerospace Center have agreed a forward-looking memorandum of understanding with the aim of further developing and enhancing air rescue services in Germany
The ADAC Foundation, ADAC Luftrettung and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) have agreed a forward-looking memorandum of understanding at the International Aerospace Exhibition (ILA) in Berlin with the aim of further developing and enhancing air rescue services in Germany. A agreement stipulates that the three non-profit organizations bundle their competencies and, in the future, jointly contribute to the further development of the air medical and rescue services.
“With its research, DLR wants to help in the long term to make rescue helicopters fit for use in almost any weather and at any time of the day. We look forward to working with the ADAC Foundation in this area in the future,” said DLR CEO Prof. Dr. med. Pascale Ehrenfreund. DLR Aerospace Director Prof. Rolf Henke emphasised: "Along with DLR's 2030 rescue helicopter concept, ADAC is an ideal partner to exchange views on how future rescue helicopters are to be ideally designed and what research questions need to be resolved.”
Under the terms of the agreement, the partners will be working on a number of joint ventures to help optimise the technical and environmental performance of air rescue. For example, the conditions for extended flight operations for helicopters in all weather conditions are to be investigated, but also the psychological and physiological requirements for personnel selection will be further developed jointly. In addition, the co-operation in the development of new simulation technology in the field of human-machine interaction should contribute to the further improvement of air rescue.
"Our co-operation with DLR enables us to combine science and practice in Germany," said Frédéric Bruder, Managing Director of ADAC Luftrettung, describing the prospects for cooperation. "We have already successfully cooperated with DLR in the training and qualification of flight crew in the past. As a next project, we also want to work together on the conception of the helicopter of the future - with a time horizon of 2030."
