The Israeli police inaugurated its new aerial firefighting squadron at a ceremony on 6 February.

The Israeli police inaugurated its new aerial firefighting squadron at a ceremony on 6 February. It was announced last year that the responsibility of aerial firefighting was being moved from the Air Force to the police service. The new squadron is named the ‘Elad Squadron’, after Elad Riven, an Israeli volunteer firefighter who was killed during the 2010 Carmel disaster.

The squadron has already been called into action, helping to tackle the recent wildfires that swept through Israel, including the city of Haifa.
