The Louisiana National Guard in the US has released a video where a helicopter crew recounts the rescue of people from flood waters near Winnfield on 10 March. Members of the Bayou 69 Black Hawk crew describe winching six people from rising waters. The crew are part of the 2-135th General Support Aviation Battalion at Esler field in Pineville.
The tasking involved precision hover work to lift two victims from a capsized boat without hitting trees or power lines. The crew then picked up a further four people stranded in the same area.
Captain Chad Hines, medevac commander, said the mission had been as complicated as most medevac crews see in their entire careers.
Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jack Mucha, one of the two pilots onboard, commented: “The most rewarding mission you can do in army aviation is doing medevac and saving lives, both in combat and here in the States. You really know that you’ve done your job and made a difference that particular day.”
