Midlands Air Ambulance, a UK air ambulance charity, has released its statistics for the last 12 months, revealing that missions were up 23 per cent compared to the previous year.
The charity, which attended its 50,000th mission in March 2018, attended a total of 2,200 missions in 2017-2018, having attended 1,792 in 2016-2017. The number of trauma and accident cases rose to 1,749, 736 of which were road traffic accidents, the charity’s stats showed. The charity was shocked however by the rise in the number of stabbing incidents, which rose from 78 to 135.
“It’s clear from these statistics that the need for the support of the critical care paramedics and doctors on board our helicopters and rapid response vehicles is on the increase, which is why we are constantly looking to improve our operational and clinical services to ensure we can keep saving lives every day,” said Ian Roberts, Air Operations Manager for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. “The skilled aircrew, together with state of the art equipment and helicopters, ensure a patient’s chances of survival are vastly increased. Our CCPs are trained to Master’s degree level, which is reflected in their forward thinking and quick actions on every mission they undertake.”
