A Georgia, US, law enforcement helicopter crashed into an Alabama river in Chilton County on 16 November, leading to the deaths of all onboard crew members.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the helicopter was a Bell OH-58 and crashed into the Coosa River with two crew members onboard. The pilot, whose body has been recovered, has been identified as David Hill, a 53-year-old police officer who continued to serve in the force as a pilot despite retiring officially from law enforcement.
“He was beloved and respected by his fellow officers and by all who knew him. He will be missed,” said a statement from Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia. “David was traveling at the time of his death with a passenger, whose identity and information is being withheld at the request of his family.”
The crash scene is currently being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board investigators.
