Pupils airlifted from school with breathing problems
An ADAC Luftrettung helicopter was dispatched, and DRF Luftrettung sent its helicopters from bases in Leonberg, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Friedrichshafen.
Emergency services responded after a number of pupils began coughing and having breathing difficulties at a school in Kirchheim unter Teck, Germany on 7 April. An ADAC Luftrettung helicopter was dispatched, and DRF Luftrettung sent its helicopters from bases in Leonberg, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe and Friedrichshafen. Local firefighters, police officers and ground ambulance crews also attended the incident.
The school was cleared and the patients were taken to the sports hall to be assessed by medical staff. Several students had to be transported to hospitals for further investigation.
“Because many of the patients had to be transported to a paediatric clinic, they were distributed to different hospitals,” said Dirk Gockeler, lead rescue medic at DRF Luftrettung’s Leonberg base. The ground ambulances took patients to local children’s clinics, while the helicopters were used to reach facilities further away, he said. “The co-operation of all rescue workers was excellent with this mission, everything went smoothly.”
An investigation was launched into the cause of the symptoms, said DRF Luftrettung.
