A Rega employee was found dead in a police cell on 6 August, having apparently hung himself. The man had been arrested in connection with the attempted sale of a medical report relating to Michael Schumacher to members of the media. The former Formula One driver suffered a serious head injury in a skiing accident, and Rega was sent medical records by the hospital in Grenoble, France, that was treating Schumacher, prior to his transfer to Lausanne, Switzerland in June.
Ernst Kohler, chairman and CEO of Rega, issued a statement saying that the organisation’s thoughts and condolences were with the family of the deceased and those connected with him. He confirmed that the man had been taken into police custody on suspicion of a breach of professional secrecy.
The circumstances of the death are being investigated by the prosecutor in the Canton of Zurich.
