Survival Flight has issued a statement concerning the crash of its Bell 407 medical helicopter on 29 September in Lawton, Oklahoma, US.
Survival Flight has issued a statement concerning the crash of its Bell 407 medical helicopter on 29 September in Lawton, Oklahoma, US. Luckily, all four crew members were left uninjured.
The helicopter was travelling back to Comanche County Memorial Hospital without a patient onboard when it was forced to make an emergency landing in the middle of a road. The crew sustained only minor injuries and were treated in the hospital. Survival Flight only gained its licence to operate in the area on the 26 September. There has so far been no statement regarding the cause of the crash.
According to news outlet ABC 7News, Andy Arthurs, vice-president of EMS services at Survival Flight, said of the crash: “This industry is not without risk, but if you have a bad day, this is the best case scenario because our people are what matter the most. We are fortunate to have our crew safe and no one on the ground injured. That’s what Survival Flight is about. People, patients and our community.”
Arthurs also went on to thank Comanche County EMS, Comanche County Memorial Hospital, the Lawton Fire Department and the Lawton Police Department for helping with the crash. ABC 7News is also reporting that Survival Flight and Comanche County Memorial Hospital are working together to place another aircraft at the hospital to serve the area.
