A UK Coastguard helicopter completed two medevacs back-to-back, totalling nine hours in the air. The helicopter left its base in Stornoway at 21:00 hrs on 5 August to airlift an unwell patient from Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The helicopter and crew completed this task around midnight.
It was refuelling in Aberdeen when the second call came in to rescue injured fisherman from a vessel 123 nautical miles east southeast of Aberdeen. After finding the boat, the crew airlifted the casualty to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The crew finally returned to base at 06:00 hrs.
