DIFFS system set for Manchester helipad

UK charity the HELP Appeal has announced that it will be funding the installation of a Deck Integrated Fire Fighting System (DIFFS) at Manchester University NHS Trust’s new helipad.
The helipad is not due to be completed until the end of 2018. HELP has already pledged a donation of £1 million towards the new helipad but has also pledged a further £365,000 in order for the DIFFS system to be built into the helipad. HELP says that the system will ‘ensure the safety of those on deck and [avoid] the need for a hospital evacuation’.
The DIFFS integrates a series of nozzles into the helipad. In the event of a fire, these are then able to spray water and foam, putting out a fire in 15 second, says HELP. It also keeps staffing costs low as there will be no need for an on-site firefighting team.
“The HELP Appeal is keen for helipads across the country to have this state-of-the-art technology in place to ensure the highest level of safety whilst enabling the Hospital to save money,” said Robert Bertram, Chief Executive of the HELP Appeal. “Manchester University Hospitals’ helipad will now be one of the safest in the country.”
