Four people were recently saved in one day by drones, marking a milestone in public safety drone use, drone manufacturer DJI has announced.
The rescues took place on 31 May over two continents in three separate incidents, and bring the total number of rescues performed or assisted by drones up to ‘at least 133’, according to DJI. The first rescue took place in the UK, with Devon & Cornwall Police and Dorset Police using their drone’s thermal imaging to find a semi-conscious man at the edge of a steep cliff face. The other two rescues both took place in the US, the first in Indiana, where a life vest was dropped to a criminal suspect who had fled into a pond, and the second in Texas, where a life vest was dropped to a mother and daughter who became stranded in a rising river. These three rescues mark the highest recorded number of drone rescues in one day, according to DJI.
