IHST identifies accident prevention measures
The International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST) has launched a new global survey to determine safety strengths and weaknesses in the helicopter industry.
The International Helicopter Safety Team (IHST), which is a global industry/government group focused on reducing international civil helicopter accident rates, has launched a new global survey to determine safety strengths and weaknesses in the helicopter industry. This is IHST’s fourth annual survey of civil helicopter operators located in key regions around the world that seeks to gain a broader understanding of where safety initiatives are being implemented.
The group analysed more than 1,000 helicopter accidents and concluded that the following areas offer the best opportunities to prevent helicopter accidents: the implementation of safety management systems; a structured programme for initial and recurrent training; the implementation of health and usage monitoring systems; the implementation of flight data monitoring programmes; structured programmes to fully comply with manufacturers’ recommended maintenance practices; the installation of Wire strike prevention systems; and the usage of night vison systems when warranted.
The survey form can be found here.
