This final issue of 2018 contains an eclectic mix of articles and reports from organisations around the world. Accreditation of air ambulance services, which keep standards high in the industry, is becoming ever more important, and in this edition of AirMed&Rescue we talk to the new business development manager of the European Aero-Medical Institute (EURAMI), while Eileen Frazer of the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Services (CAMTS) discusses the organisation’s latest policy changes.
The use of drones as HEMS support is being trialled in Australia, and this topic certainly has more to give – how to safely and effectively make use of unmanned systems for the betterment of patient outcomes needs to be further investigated. There are obviously concerns about drones and helicopters operating together in such close quarters, but if these devices can deliver much-needed blood products to the scene of an accident when it matters most, then they can save lives. The industry has a responsibility to assess what be achieved in this area.
