Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter, New Zealand, has announced a busy start to 2017, with the craft being dispatched numerous times already since the beginning of the new year.
The helicopter and crew made their first call of 2017 shortly after midnight, assisting with a man who had suffered a ‘serious medical event’ in Eketahuna, said the service. The man was said to have been stabilised onboard the chopper before being airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital for further treatment.
The helicopter then completed another mission, evacuating a woman from Waione who was suffering a severe allergic reaction to Palmerstone North Hospital.
Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter wasn’t allowed to rest for long however. At around midday on 2 January, the helicopter was then called to fly a man to Whanganui hospital after suffering a medical event. It was then diverted to assist with a motor vehicle incident. A man in his 30s had to be stabilised by the aircraft’s onboard intensive care paramedic.
Shortly before last light on the 2 January, a police search for a tramping party of four was beginning. The helicopter then joined the search at first light, with the party being found later in a hiking hut and flown out.
