Simulator aims to give public better understanding of HEMS choppers
Midlands Air Ambulance has acquired a new interactive helicopter system aimed at the public.
Midlands Air Ambulance, a UK HEMS charity, has acquired a new interactive helicopter system aimed at the public that has utilised the aviation simulator technology developed by SEA.
The simulator features a large curved screen inside a mock fuselage and enables members of the public to experience a helicopter taking off. The simulator is based on an EC135. It will give people a chance to learn about the aircraft, the crew and the onboard medical equipment, said SEA.
The internal fit-out was completed by Torton Bodies. SEA said that other regional air ambulance charities are also looking into investing in a helipod, along with the potential opportunity to use the simulator as a rear fuselage and aeromedical training aid.
Midlands Air Ambulance said that the simulator will be used for the first time at the upcoming Cheltenham Festival horseracing event. Jason Levy, fundraising and marketing director for Midlands Air Ambulance, added: “The new technology in our helipod will allow the public to learn about the lifesaving work the charity undertakes and highlight the vitally important part they play in fundraising to save lives.”
