Dirt biker impaled in remote bush race
CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to the track at Olney.
A dirt bike racer suffered a serious leg injury on a remote bush track west of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, on 5 August. CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to the track at Olney, on the edge of Watagan National Park, shortly after 16:00 hrs.
The male rider had crashed and was speared along the length of his thigh by small branch. NSW Ambulance crews were on the scene and provided initial treatment before transferring the man to the helicopter. CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided further treatment before he was flown to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney in a stable condition.
