A UK Coastguard helicopter based in Newquay rescued an unwell cruise ship passenger in the early hours of 13 October.
The Coastguard received a VHF radio broadcast from the cruise ship that was positioned around 60 miles (95 km) southeast of Plymouth at around 05:30 hrs. The passenger in question had been injured in a fall when the ship docked at its previous port.
The crew used radar and thermal imaging to find and approach the ship due to the low cloud cover and poor visibility. They were able to rescue the patient from the deck of the ship, before taking him safely to Plymouth Hospital.
