Police locate missing hiker
The Massachusetts State Police were able to locate and retrieve a woman who had become lost while hiking in Western Massachusetts on 10 October, with the use of a police helicopter and its thermal imaging camera.
The Massachusetts State Police were able to locate and retrieve a woman who had become lost while hiking in Western Massachusetts on 10 October, with the use of a police helicopter and its thermal imaging camera. The woman had been reported missing on October Mountain – the state’s largest forest at 16,500 acres – by her husband, who was able to tell the police which entrance he believed his wife had used, and the police helicopter was dispatched along with personnel from the Environmental Police, the Department of Conservation and Recreation, local EMS and even Washington Fire Department. Using its thermal imaging system, the helicopter located the woman within two hours. A video released by police shows the woman being found:
