Germany’s Air Alliance Medflight has announced the creation of a UK-based aeromedical team located in Birmingham.
Wolfgang Krombach, CEO of the fixed-wing air ambulance provider, said: “We are very excited to announce that we now have integrated medical capabilities in the UK which are led by medical director Dr Jon Warwick and clinical services manager David Quayle. We have further enhanced this team by chief flight nurse Tiina Kauhanen and Jane Topliss, who will oversee the entire UK operation.” He continued: “The UK presents an exciting opportunity, and we recognise that local skills and reputation are extremely important. Dr Warwick and his team will enable us to work very closely with our clients and help with specialist services such as hospital admissions and road ambulance bookings in the UK and Republic of Ireland.”
The UK-based services will operate from facilities at Birmingham Airport and initially will boast two Learjet 35A planes, both available in double-stretcher configuration. All client requests will be handled centrally from Medflight’s Alarm Center in Germany.
Warwick said he was looking forward to being involved in the expansion of Air Alliance Medflight, saying it represented an exciting opportunity for the UK and ROI market.
Founded in 1993, Air Alliance Medflight is part of the Air Alliance Group and is headquartered at Siegerland Airport with a further base at Cologne airport. A subsidiary, Air Alliance Medflight UK Limited, was registered with the British authorities in March.
The new team members, Warwick, Quayle, Kauhanen and Topliss, previously worked together at Oxford-based Air Medical Ltd (also known as AirMed UK), which went into administration in February. With the recent acquisition of two Learjet 35As and two Piper Cheyenne PA42s that were previously flown by Air Medical Ltd fleet, Air Alliance Medflight now boasts a fleet of 15 planes, including nine Learjet 35As, 3 Piper Cheyenne PA42s, one Learjet 55, one Learjet 31 and a Challenger 604.
In early May, the company made the headlines in Belgium when three injured students were repatriated from Zambia onboard its Challenger jet.
