First ever birth onboard Mexican Navy helo

The Mexican Navy has reported that for the first time in its history, a baby has been born onboard one of its aircraft during flight. A Navy helicopter was conducting the emergency transfer of a woman in labour in Baja California Sur when the birth occurred.

The woman, a civilian, had requested care at a Navy clinic, but it was decided that she required urgent transfer to Ciudad Constitución for specialised care. She was cared for during the flight by a doctor from Puerto Cortes Naval Sector. The service highlighted that although this was an emergency delivery, the MD Explorer was kitted out as an ambulance and the mother and child were assisted throughout by the medical crew.

After landing, the mother and the newborn were taken to a state hospital where they were reported to be in good health.

The Navy said it was honoured to have hosted the birth.
