The Chilean Navy based at Iquique carried out a successful patient evacuation training exercise at sea. It simulated the removal of a patient with a broken arm from a boat by helicopter. The Navy said that the aim of the exercise was to make sure all crew are constantly trained and prepared for similar situations.
First Lt Macarena Stevenson, a doctor in the Forth Navy, performed a hi-line manoeuvre down from a Dauphin chopper to the boat below. She then attended to the wounded before hoisting him back up. The chopper than flew to a nearby heliport at Iquique Naval base, where an ambulance was waiting to take the patient to the naval polyclinic.
