Air Medical first to pass new EURAMI standards
The European Aeromedical Institute (EURAMI) has announced that Air Medical Ltd has become the first company to complete a re-accreditation according to the Institute’s new standards.
The European Aeromedical Institute (EURAMI) has announced that Air Medical Ltd has become the first company to complete a re-accreditation according to the Institute’s new standards. The UK-based air ambulance provider’s accreditation under EURAMI’s ‘special care’ category expired on 1 May, but the company has been awarded re-accreditation under the new categories of ‘regional and intercontinental for fixed-wing operations, with medical endorsements for adult, paediatric and neonatal critical care’. Air Medical Ltd’s new accreditation is valid until 1 May 2017.
The new EURAMI standards, draft version 4.0, defines intercontinental air ambulances as ‘programmes that have the operational capability to fly to another continent than that on which they are based’. The medical endorsements available under the standards are: ‘adult critical care transport’, ‘paediatric critical care transport’, ‘neonatal critical care’, ‘advanced critical care transport’ and ‘EMS special care’.
In related news, MedFlight Finland Oy’s EURAMI accreditation has now lapsed. In 2010, the company was awarded a ‘full accreditation special care’ certificate that was valid until 1 November 2013, but this was later extended until 1 May 2014. A spokesperson for the service told Waypoint: “We expect to receive reaccreditation, but the date has not been determined yet.”
