Sea rescue follows microlight crash
Two people were rescued from the sea on 10 October after their microlight crashed into the Cromarty Firth, Scotland.The microlight was spotted in difficulty near Evanton by another aircraft just after 14:00 hrs. The UK Coastguard was informed and requested the launch of the Invergordon RNLI Lifeboat. The Coastguard rescue helicopter from Inverness was scrambled and the Inverness, Cromarty and Portmahomack Coastguard Rescue Teams were sent to the scene. The lifeboat launched its inflatable rescue craft and recovered the two people from their craft. They were then airlifted and taken by Coastguard helicopter to hospital. Calum Christie, UK Coastguard, commented: “Although shocked and hypothermic, the crew were uninjured. It was fortunate that they were spotted by the other aircraft who quickly reported their predicament. We were able to get rescue resources on scene swiftly resulting in a positive outcome.”
