Danish assistance provider SOS International issued a statement on 24 September saying that it can now handle cases of suspected or verified Ebola fever, including transporting the patient to Scandinavia. The company said that a specialised SOS International doctor would assess the situation and possibilities for assisting a patient, who would be monitored until he/she is cured or repatriated. The firm added that several options exist for transferring patients locally or internationally, dependent on the individual case and medical indications, including evacuation by air ambulance to Europe. However, the patient will only be transported if the SOS International doctors judge the patient fit to fly and find a medical indication to transport the patient.
In case of repatriation, the patient will be admitted to the infectious diseases department in their home country. SOS International has a general approval from all Nordic countries to accept a patient with Ebola or suspected Ebola.
