STAR Flight crew member loses life during rescue
A flight nurse has fallen to her death during a STAR Flight hoist mission.
On 27 April, STAR Flight of Austin, Texas, US, was conducting a rescue of a woman who had fallen in the Barton Creek Greenbelt at around 20:25 hrs. At approximately 21:50 hrs, STAR Flight, flying in an EC145 helicopter, located the woman and was hoisting her into the aircraft when STAR Flight flight nurse Kristin McLain, 46, fell from the helicopter’s hoist. She died at the scene.
The rescued patient was transported to University Medical Center-Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.
