Recoil Aerospace receives STC for aerial firefighting system
The certificate covers the use of Recoil Aerospace’s T1000-E fire suppression system with the AS332 Super Puma
Recoil Aerospace has received supplemental type certificate (STC) approval from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its T1000-E aerial fire suppression system.
The STC covers the installation of the 3,785L externally mounted system on Airbus’s AS332 Super Puma series of helicopters.
The system offers refilling times of 35–40 seconds, with drops lasting around five seconds. It also boasts a 132L integrated foam tank, LED pulse lights, flood lights, infrared lights, and a hailing siren.
Deliveries will start later this year
Recoil stated earlier this year that it was now accepting deposits for the T1000-E – with deliveries scheduled to begin in May. The company named four launch customers for the system:
- Heli Austria
- Coldstream Helicopters
- Precision Aviation Group
- Korean 119 Rescue Services.
It added that the process of “bilateral STC recognition” was already underway with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Recoil confirmed that it was working towards similar approvals for other aircraft types – with certification for the UH-60 Black Hawk due for completion in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Other types in the process of approval include the S-92, S-76, BH-205, and AW189 rotorcraft – all of which the company hopes to receive STCs for next year.
