A new generation of large capacity amphibious aerial firefighting aircraft

Wildfires are a visible and dramatic consequence of climate change. They also contribute to global warming due to the quantity of CO2 they release in the atmosphere and the destruction of vegetation, which is a critical carbon sink. To date, as we recently witnessed in California, states and populations are helpless in the face of this calamity because manufacturers do not offer an effective aerial firefighting (AFF) solution, all the while demand is exploding.

The Hynaero company launched the Fregate-F100 program in 2023, a modern large capacity amphibious water bomber aircraft for AFF. The Fregate will provide public and private operators with a modern aircraft adapted to current and future crises and capable of scooping at both sea and inland water areas.

WHY AN AMPHIBIOUS PLANE?

Only a scooping capacity near fires allows for autonomy of action and it gives the required high rate of rotations to fight and contain fires. The integration of state-of-the-art technologies, and the architecture designed specifically for this AFF mission, make the Fregate-F100 an asset with mission capabilities that are more than doubled compared with any other existing AFF aircraft.

The Fregate-F100 will scoop more than 10 tons of water, cruise at 250kts and, thanks to state-of-the-art flight controls, it will have the required high maneuverability at low speed to allow efficient dropping and scooping on less than one kilometer.

A comprehensive mission system will establish the air–land situation thus providing situational awareness and air–land deconfliction. Onboard AI will analyze fire mapping and will provide tactical options for how to best attack wildfires.

A GLOBAL MARKET

Hynaero is targeting at least 50% of the overall world market of 300 heavy AFF assets to be supplied over the period 2030–2050. Customers are primarily governmental and private operators given the urgency for renewing their fleets and the need to increase their operational capacity.

In addition to the response perfectly suited to the AFF aircraft market, the amphibious capability of the Fregate-F100 makes it also possible to consider variants for passenger and cargo transport, as well as for maritime patrol, and search and rescue operations at sea, from the onset of the program.
