The next generation of immersion
Carlota Esteban, Business Manager, Entrol, describes how Enwall solves the problems of traditional projector screens in simulation
What is your role with Entrol, and what is your favorite thing about the job?
I am Business Manager at the Sales Department with Entrol. My favorite thing about my job is the international scope of it: aviation is a global market, and therefore our products have to reach different countries across the world. We must adapt to the different contexts and regulations to make our simulators a global solution for all the operators and schools.
Enwall was launched about this time last year. How was this unique immersive LED system for simulations devised?
Traditionally, projection has been the standard for the industry of simulation. However, we spotted the same need from our customers: projectors were the weakest part and required very exhaustive maintenance.
We decided to find a suitable solution and we came out with our Enwall LED visual system. It overcame the problems of projectors: easy maintenance, neither warping nor blending needed and unstoppable training (if one panel breaks, the screen keeps working).
The color contrast is unmatched. Indeed, one of the most appealing benefits is night training: pixels can turn off to get true black and perfect night scenes.
It was not an easy path; we carried out an exhaustive research into LED display technologies and designed some different approaches until we found the perfect one.
What makes Enwall better suited for simulators than legacy projection technology?
As mentioned, we noted the main problems of projectors and designed a solution that could overcome them:
• Easy maintenance: replacing a projector is difficult and costly, whereas replacing an LED panel is fast and more accessible
• Easy installation: neither warping nor blending needed, they are modular panels held by magnets
• Better color contrast: higher resolution, true colors and perfect brightness that ensure the highest level of immersion.
How does this integrate with Entrol Mission, benefiting special missions operations?
Together with Enwall, we launched Envision: our image generator powered by Unreal Engine that allows us to develop the most accurate mission scenarios.
The mission package that Envision includes has various specific set-ups for firefighting, helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS), search and rescue (SAR) and offshore missions.
We keep working on our products day by day, so we are developing new mission scenarios and directly implementing them in Envision.
Where can people see and test the Enwall LED technology?
Some of our customers have already chosen Enwall for their training, and we are very happy with its implementation.
We also have a showroom at our facilities with Enwall LED visual system displayed, so that our customers can try firsthand how it feels to fly an Entrol simulator with the highest fidelity possible.
