REISER Simulation and Training

Jonas Goercke, Head of Business Line (Flight Training, Data, Models), REISER Simulation and Training, explains the ways that REISER is pushing the boundaries of simulation training and how it benefits rotary-wing special missions

In a world increasingly affected by geopolitical conflicts, climate-related disasters, and growing demands for emergency response, the need for highly skilled helicopter crews has never been greater. From military operations and search and rescue (SAR) missions to medical evacuations and disaster relief, helicopters play a crucial role in crisis management. As the demand for helicopter missions increases, so does the need for advanced training solutions that prepare pilots and crews for the most challenging conditions.

REISER Simulation and Training is at the forefront of this effort, providing innovative simulation technology that ensures mission readiness for operators worldwide. With new developments in full-flight simulation, extended reality (XR) training, and specialized mission equipment simulation, REISER is redefining the future of rotorcraft training.

A broad range of training solutions

REISER covers the entire spectrum of helicopter pilot and crew training devices, from initial familiarization with avionics to the highest levels of full-flight simulation. The portfolio includes:

  • Avionic cloud trainers – User-friendly platforms designed to familiarize pilots with new avionics software quickly and efficiently, anytime, anywhere
  • Flight procedure trainers (FNPT / FTD) – The optimum solution for procedural training. Modular and upgradeable, powered by REISER’s proven Level D full-flight simulator software
  • Level D full-flight simulators and XR simulation – Doubling training efficiency with the mothership system. Premium training devices provide uncompromising realism for the highest level of mission readiness. One of REISER’s latest advancements is the XR simulation cockpit, which is seamlessly integrated into the unique mothership system. This approach allows to quickly swap H135 and H145 cockpits within one full-flight simulator. The removed cockpit can be a standalone XR flight training device with VR goggles. Operators practically get two simulators in one – a fully operational Level D full-flight simulator alongside a cost-effective, high-fidelity XR trainer
  • hoistAR® – SAR and emergency medical services (EMS) rely heavily on hoist operations, where precision and safety are critical. Developed in collaboration with DRF Luftrettung, hoistAR® integrates advanced VR technology with a motion platform and provides highly realistic training scenarios. The system features a mobile design for unparalleled flexibility, allowing it to be transported directly to various training locations. Notably, hoistAR® can operate in two modes: as a standalone trainer for hoist operators or linked to a full-flight simulator for comprehensive crew training. This versatility enables pilots, crew members, and hoist operators to train together in a coordinated environment. hoistAR is crucial in mitigating risks and minimizing the overall ecological footprint
  • SimplAIR® training management system (TMS) – A platform solution for training administration, organization and content. Currently, it includes content for type rating and recurrent training for the H135 and H145 D3 helicopters. It fully implements distance learning and will further evolve into an all-content aviation platform.

The future of H145 D3 FFS Level D simulation

The Airbus H145 has rapidly become a leading aircraft for first responders, firefighters, public service operators, and military customers worldwide. Since the beginning of the program, the aircraft has logged more than 7 million flight hours. This evolution has outpaced the availability of dedicated pilot and crew training solutions. The market currently lacks sufficient training options, and REISER’s expertise in providing highly advanced simulators makes the company the key player in filling this gap.

As the exclusive provider of H145 D3 Level D full-flight simulators, with already qualified devices in operation at Norwegian Competence Centre Helicopter (NCCH) in Stavanger, Norway, and Swiss Air-Rescue Rega in Zurich, Switzerland, REISER is set to shape the future of H145 training worldwide. This development is underscored by the recent contract with the European Heli Center (EHC) Netherlands, further solidifying REISER’s position as the industry leader in H135/H145 Level D helicopter simulation.

Looking ahead

REISER continues to push the boundaries of helicopter simulation. With the upcoming integration of Helionix® 10 avionics software into its simulators by Q3 2025 and plans to expand its portfolio to include additional Airbus helicopter platforms, the company remains at the forefront of high-end simulation technology.

Importantly, REISER’s expertise is not limited to a single aircraft manufacturer. Thanks to its proven ability to collect flight data through dedicated flight test campaigns, REISER has the freedom and technical know-how to develop accurate, high-fidelity flight models for virtually any helicopter type. This agility enables the company to support a broad spectrum of aircraft platforms across global markets, delivering tailored solutions wherever needed.
