Aerometals introduces new flat filter barrier filter design
The new IBF offers a 50 per cent increase in service interval times, simplified pre-flight and inclement weather inspections, as well as a 900g reduction in weight
Aerometals has announced that its new flat filter inlet barrier filter (IBF) design has received US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ‘concurrence’.
The design, which is offered in both single and dual hydraulic configuration, can be fitted to Airbus H130 and EC130B4 helicopters, as well as the Airbus A350 airliner, and will be offered as both a new filter assembly as well as an upgrade to existing ones.
Modification of older IBF systems can reportedly be accomplished using a simple hardware replacement, with no composite repair required.
The flat design offers benefits such as an increased service interval from 100 to 150 hours, easier cleaning and oiling, a 900g reduction in weight, and simplified pre-flight and inclement weather inspections.
Additionally, the IBF can provide up to 96.8 per cent separation efficiency of airborne salt nuclei for salt laden or offshore environments.
Aerometals received FAA approval for a previous iteration of the H130 IBF in August 2018.
