Air Care Alliance calls for volunteer pilots to follow safety measures
US-based Air Care Alliance urges volunteer pilots and groups participating in Covid-19 relief flights to be aware of the risks involved
By volunteering during the pandemic, pilots assume an increased health risk to themselves and others. Any relief flight should therefore be necessary and appropriate for general aviation pilots.
Air Care Alliance said in a statement: “We encourage you to evaluate and mitigate risks related to Covid-19 and to follow proper protocols.”
The alliance recommends some guidelines, like wearing disposable latex gloves, wiping down the aircraft after each flight, thoroughly clean or discard oxygen masks and maintaining social distancing rules.
“We at Air Care Alliance appreciate the efforts of volunteers and supporters of public benefit flying groups who help those in need and serve our communities,” the statement continued. “We urge you to stay safe and to take all necessary precautions to prevent spreading and contracting the virus, so that we remain part of the solution and not part of the problem.”
