Oxford, UK-based international fixed-wing air ambulance provider Air Medical Ltd, also known as AirMed, has announced that it has gone into administration.

In a statement published on 1 February, the company said: “Many of you have become aware of the past two weeks of the situation that AirMed was facing. On the 19 January 2016, Air Medical Ltd filed a Notice of Intention to appoint an administrator. Since then we have been in negotiations to try and find a way of ensuring that we continue the incredible work that we do. Unfortunately, we have not been successful in this, and so it is with a heavy heart that we must announce ... that Air Medical Ltd (AirMed) has gone into administration.”

Directors and shareholders have invested significant sums into AirMed, said the company, whilst new investors have been sought. However, added the firm, due to the absence of additional resources, the directors had no choice but to apply for administration.

The statement continues: “The Board wants to convey how deeply sorry they are to everyone who has been affected by this heartbreaking decision. AirMed only existed due to its incredibly passionate, compassionate and highly talented team. We are proud to have achieved as much as we have and to have touched the lives of thousands of people.” The company also thanked its suppliers and clients for their support over its 30-year history.

The appointed administrators are Neil Bennett and Alex Cadwallader of Leonard Curtis, London.
