Air Methods to open new Massachusetts base
Air Methods has announced that it will open a new air ambulance base at Fitchburg Municipal Airport in central Massachusetts
The base will provide ‘fast, reliable air medical services’ across ‘northern Worcester County and beyond’, and has been established in collaboration with the City of Fitchburg.
The new base will operate at all hours, all year, responding to time-sensitive medical incidents such as heart attacks, strokes, burns and pediatric emergencies, as well as offering inter-hospital transports when needed.
The base’s aircraft will carry a range of medical equipment for procedures such as advanced airway intervention, cardiac and blood flow monitoring, ventilator management, medical administration and titration, and in-flight blood transfusions.
“In addition to a flying emergency department and ICU, our goal is to invest in the communities we serve by providing an economic footprint that includes rent, fuel, food, hotels, and adding numerous fulltime positions,” said Air Methods’ Vice President of Customer Experience Steve Konold.
He added that: “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Mayor DiNatale, the Airport Commission, and Airport Manager Peter Kettle on this lifesaving investment. This strategic location will ensure our ability to help treat and transport critically ill and injured patients when minutes matter most.”
Air Methods also recently established a base in Walton County, Florida, in collaboration with the local government.
