Air Transat pledges to help with Haiti effort
Air Transat plans to fly emergency supplies to Port-au-Prince for those affected by Hurricane Michael.
Air Transat, a Canadian holiday airline, recently pledged to use one of its planes to assist with bringing in humanitarian aid to Haiti on 15 November. It plans to fly emergency supplies provided by Food For The Poor Canada from Montreal to Port-au-Prince for those affected by Hurricane Michael. Aid workers from several organisations will also be on board.
This is not the time the company has made humanitarian flights – it dispatched four flights to Haiti, bringing almost 100 tonnes of goods, after the earthquake that struck the country in 2010.
“For 20 years, Air Transat and Haiti have had a longstanding partnership in the areas of economic and tourism development,” said Jean-François Lemay, president of Air Transat. “As a responsible company, we feel it is essential to contribute to ongoing relief efforts and help meet the urgent needs of people most affected by the storm.”
