Atlantic Airways signs training agreement with the Armed Forces of Malta
The company will provide training support to the Maltese military fleet of AW139s, used for border control, search and rescue, and maritime patrol
Faroe Islands-based Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy has been awarded a three-year contract by the Maltese government to provide pilot training for the Leonardo AW139.
The contract is being co-financed by both Malta and the European Union’s (EU) Border Management and Visa Instrument.
The Armed Forces of Malta operate a fleet of three AW139 helicopters for operation types such as maritime patrol, border control, and search and rescue (SAR).
Atlantic Airways issued a statement about the contract, saying: “As two island nations with strong maritime traditions, we share a deep understanding of the challenges and demands of operating in remote and dynamic environments. We are proud to continue this cooperation and strengthen the ties between our island communities through advanced helicopter training.”
Atlantic Airways Aviation Academy opened a new training center in Vágar, the Faroe Islands, earlier this year.
