The upgrades will improve communication and safety on the helicopters, which are used for aerial firefighting missions on behalf of the US Forest Service

Axnes, a manufacturer of wireless communications solutions, has announced that its PNG Wireless Intercom System (WICS) has been equipped on two AS332 L1 Super Pumas operated by Precision Helicopters.

The systems will be used to enhance the operational capabilities of the two aircraft as it supports US Forest Service (USFS) wildfire contracts.

Precision Helicopters is the first North American operator to outfit the Axnes PNG system to the AS332 platform specifically for firefighting missions.

The PNG WICS is designed to integrate into any aircraft communications suite, or function as a standalone, portable system. It allows secure, full-duplex communication without the limitations of wired intercom systems. This, Axnes stated, is intended to improve crew mobility and reduce the risk of cord snags.

“Integrating the Axnes PNG system into our Super Puma fleet is a game-changer,” ‎said Grayson Barrows, General Manager of Precision Helicopters. “This technology not only enhances crew ‎safety and communication but also increases our operational flexibility in the field. It’s a major ‎step forward in supporting the USFS and other mission-critical operations.”

Axnes’ PNG WICS systems were also selected by the UK Ministry of Defence last year for use on its Puma helicopter fleet.
