Black Hawk crashes in Alabama
A UH-60 Black Hawk operated by the Tennessee National Guard crashed near Huntsville, Alabama, on 15 February
The helicopter, which crashed at approximately 15:00hrs local time near Highway 53 and Burwell Road, had been out on a training exercise at the time of the incident. The aircraft rapidly lost altitude while approaching the Huntsville Executive Airport.
Two National Guardsmen – Chief Warrant Officers Daniel Wadham and Danny Randolph – were onboard. Both were killed during the incident.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has said in a statement that troopers with its Highway Patrol Division, as well as Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, responded to the crash. The helicopter was on fire by the time local firefighters arrived.
Federal and local authorities have confirmed that no other service members or civilians were injured in the incident, and that the crash is now being investigated further.
A firefighting helicopter owned by Helicópteros del Pacífico also crashed near the town of Galvarino, Chile, on 3 February.
