Bulgarian air ambulance receives regulator approval
The regulator approval is a critical step towards the launch of Bulgaria’s new national air ambulance service
Bulgaria Heli Med Service has received Air Operator Certificate approval from the country’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation Administration.
The approval, “for emergency medical assistance by air”, was announced by Transport Minister Georgi Gvozdeykov on 18 March.
It followed the completion of a demonstration flight earlier that day by the air ambulance service between the air base of the General Directorate of Border Police and St Ekaterina University Hospital in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia.
Gvozdeykov added that the service, which received its first helicopter – an AW109 Trekker – in February, will receive its second and third rotorcraft in June and December, respectively. The aircraft are part of a batch of six ordered in early 2023.
