California’s Butte County Fire Department has announced that it is looking to contract a new firefighting helicopter

The fire department will submit a request to the local Board of Supervisors seeking authorization for the move.

The helicopter would be provided to Butte County Fire by utility provider the Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) via its existing contract with utility operator PJ Helicopters.

If approved, the aircraft would be stationed at Chico Airport from July.

According to a report by local Californian broadcaster KRCR, the contract would be a “collaboration” between Butte County Fire and PG&E, meaning that no additional costs would be incurred by the local government.

Last year, PG&E provided a similar service to Marin County, California.
