CareFlight helicopter crashes in Ohio
An air ambulance operated by Ohio-based Air Methods subsidiary CareFlight was involved in a non-fatal crash after getting caught in power lines in Milford Township, Butler County on 26 July
The aircraft had been responding to a crash between two trucks which occurred at around 04:15 hrs at an intersection of Route 127 and Eaton Road.
According to CareFlight, a patient was not onboard the aircraft at the time of the crash, and the helicopter’s three crew members were able to safely exit the vehicle following the incident.
According to Butler County’s Chief Deputy Anthony Dwyer in an interview with local television channel WXIX, one of the crew members was taken to a local hospital for ‘an unknown injury’, while the other two were treated at the scene for minor injuries. However, in a statement, CareFlight said that ‘the crew has been taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation.’
Air Methods has reportedly contacted the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to aid them in their investigation.
CareFlight stated that Air Methods has contacted the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration to ‘work through the investigation process with these agencies’, adding that ‘the safety of patients and crew is of the utmost importance to us [and] we are grateful that no one was seriously injured in this incident’
A different Air Methods helicopter, part of Maryland’s LifeNet program, was involved in a separate non-fatal crash in Philadelphia in January of this year.
