Smith Myers’ geolocation technology will be useable through CarteNav’s AIMS-ISR software

CarteNav, Canada, has integrated its Advanced Integrated Multi-sensing Surveillance–Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (AIMS-ISR) mission software with the ARTEMIS Mobile Phone detection, location and communication sensor technology, developed by Smith Myers, UK.

The integration will enable aircraft equipped with the system to identify, locate and communicate with mobile phone devices, effectively enabling mobile phones to be turned into a geo-referenced cellular track.

CarteNav says that cellular tracks can then be “geo-referenced on augmented reality moving maps alongside other equipped sensors such as active electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) track following,” offering an additional method of finding lost individuals during search and rescue (SAR) operations.

“The ARTEMIS capabilities are amazing and integrating that data with AIMS-ISR augmented reality moving maps makes it highly efficient to work with – leading to faster rescues when every second counts,” said Deirdre Gallant, Vice President of Business Development at CarteNav.

“Witnessing the EO/IR turret automatically lock onto the mobile phone’s location from over 20km and automatically track the handset on the moving map and live camera feed leaves the viewer in no doubt as to the value of this integration,” said Andrew Munro, Company Director at Smith Myers.
