Coptersafety AW169 simulator achieves FAA Level D approval

Coptersafety has received Level D qualification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for its TRU AW169 full flight simulator upgraded with Phase 8 avionics, marking a significant enhancement in advanced helicopter training for FAA-licensed pilots.

Level D is the highest standard assigned to full flight simulators by the FAA, signifying that the device meets strict technical and performance criteria. With the increasing use of the Leonardo AW169 worldwide, this qualification allows Coptersafety to provide training on the latest avionics configuration.

The simulator can be configured to match specific operational profiles, making it particularly relevant for public safety and other special missions operations, including helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS), law enforcement, offshore transport, and search and rescue. Features such as cockpit vibration, smoke generation, 3D clouds, night and NVIS/NVG visual scenes allow crews to train for high-risk scenarios in a controlled environment.

Customized visual databases replicating real-world geographic locations and landing sites further enhance mission-specific readiness.

Training is conducted at Coptersafety’s facility near Helsinki International Airport, providing FAA-compliant AW169 instruction for North American operators.
